Community Christian School is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, and holds to the doctrinal convictions of the church.
Listed below are the essential doctrines to which First Baptist Church and Community Christian School adheres. We are unwavering in our commitment to these essentials and would be most happy to discuss these beliefs should you have any questions.
MAN: Man was created in the image of God. Through willful disobedience the first man, Adam, sinned. Being the Federal Head of the human race (representative of all) because Adam sinned, we too sinned. The result of sin is both spiritual and physical death. We as individuals have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Man may renew his relationship with God by placing his faith in the finished work of Christ upon the cross for his sins, and by receiving Him as personal Savior. Christ’s death, the shedding of His blood upon the cross for the sins of humanity, and His bodily resurrection from the dead are the only basis upon which one may be saved (placed in a proper relationship with God.) This salvation is a completed transaction and cannot be broken but is eternally secure.
BIBLE: The Bible (Scriptures) is God’s written revelation of Himself. All Scripture, both in the Old and New Testaments, are inspired of God. The Bible is infallible (incapable of error) and inerrant (without error) in the original documents. God has preserved Scripture through the ages and has kept it free from any doctrinal error.
GOD: God is a spirit being who has revealed Himself in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These persons are co-equal and co-eternal, possessing each one all the attributes and nature of one God.
JESUS CHRIST: We believe that Jesus Christ, the second member of the Trinity, is the Son of God. He is by nature God Himself. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died a substitutionary death upon the cross for the sins of humanity, was buried and arose in a glorified body. After His resurrection, He ascended into heaven where He is now interceding as our “Great High Priest.” This same Jesus shall come again.
HOLY SPIRIT: We believe that God the Holy Spirit is the third member of the Holy Trinity. He is by nature God Himself. The Holy Spirit is a person and not merely a force or influence. The following are a few of His functions: He baptizes believers into the body of Christ at conversion. He indwells the life of all believers, forever. He seals all believers at conversion until the day of glorification. The Holy Spirit was active in creation, in the inspiration of Scriptures, and participated in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit teaches, comforts and assists the believer in His relationship with God. He gives gifts to the people of God in order to fulfill the purpose of Jesus’ mandate for the church.
CHURCH: God has established His church on earth. The true church is comprised of all who have placed their faith in the Lord Jesus as personal Savior. Christ is the head of the Church. The local church is comprised of believers in a geographical setting. The Holy Spirit calls men to be pastor/teachers and sets them within a local church setting to aid the church, lend direction, and to assist its functioning. The ordinances of the church are water baptism (immersion) and the communion of the New Covenant. We believe this communion (Lord’s Supper) is a worship experience wherein we remember the Lord’s death until He comes again. Water baptism is an act of obedience to the command of Jesus and symbolizes spiritual death, burial and resurrection to newness of life. It has no saving efficacy in and of itself, but is an act of obedience to which every believer ought to comply.
The church is independent in the sense of the word that only the local congregation, as led by the Holy Spirit and guided by those in spiritual leadership, assist and determine its functioning. This church, however, has elected to be a part of the Southern Baptist Convention for the purpose of fellowship and missionary endeavor.
CHRIST’S RETURN: All people will be judged by Jesus Christ. Those who are “born again” (have trusted Christ as Savior) will spend eternity in the presence of God. Those who reject God and His salvation through Jesus Christ will spend eternity in the lake of fire apart from God and His presence. Jesus Christ will one day return to the air where He shall receive His people unto Himself. This will be enacted prior to His earthly kingdom. Christ shall then rule and reign with His people on earth for a literal 1,000 year period. At the end of the thousand years, He will judge the unsaved dead. After this, the eternal state shall be ushered in.
