The College Preparatory Review Program

As a college preparatory school, Community Christian School is committed to helping each student gain entrance into the college that best fits his/her unique academic, career and life goals. An important part of our Guidance program is the College Preparatory Review (CPR).

The CPR process begins in 9th grade and is designed to help students and families prepare for college. The CPR process utilizes individual counseling sessions, grade-level group informational sessions, and family guidance meetings to help map out specific goals and objectives for each student.

Understanding a student’s ability and achievement capacities is an important objective of the CPR experience. Therefore, CCS provides a standardized testing regimen for all 9th – 11th grade students. Using the PLAN and PSAT tests in 9th and 10th grades, the CPR process gathers data to help identify each student’s academic strengths and challenge areas as they prepare for their PSAT test in the Fall of their 11th grade year. Adding those scores to the existing student profile, CCS is able to develop a reliable portrait of each student’s abilities as they prepare to take their SAT and ACT exams for the first time. To help each student, CCS offers in-curriculum test prep modules in our Math and English classes, as well as an on-campus SAT preparation program.

The College Guidance component of the CPR is designed to help students learn about colleges and their unique profiles. In addition, the CPR process helps students understand the key facets of their own personal profile. Students complete spiritual gift inventories, temperament analyses, interest inventories, and career assessments as a means of uncovering their God-given shape and design. This includes connecting students to college representatives on the CCS campus, having them attend college fairs, and giving them the option to participate in a school-led college tour. Finally, CCS shepherds each student through the college application process to ensure that he/she meets deadlines and submits a compelling application package to their chosen college.

All that said, Community Christian’s process is guided by God’s promise to each student found in Jeremiah 29: 11-13:

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

As much as we value academic success, our goal is to help each student seek God and His plan for their life. We want CCS graduates to choose wisdom beyond scholarship, character before career, and Christ above all else.
